The traditional criminal justice system faces profound challenges such as the inflation of the criminal population, high recidivism rates, and the inability to repair the harm done to victims and society. In response to this crisis, restorative justice has gained increasing importance as an alternative or complementary paradigm, focusing on the accountability of the offender, compensation for the victim, and the active participation of stakeholders in the process of resolving the effects of crime. Despite its potential, the effective implementation of this approach requires the active role of legal system actors, especially lawyers. This article, relying on the findings of restorative justice, provides an in-depth and detailed analysis of the operational roles of lawyers in the implementation and implementation of restorative justice processes in the context of the Iranian legal system and criminal policy. The article argues that although the traditional role of the lawyer in the adversarial system may conflict with the restorative philosophy, redefining professional identity, acquiring new skills (communication, mediation, psychological), and creating appropriate legal, judicial, and educational platforms can activate this enormous capacity to enhance the efficiency of existing restorative mechanisms and move toward a more humane and effective criminal policy in Iran. This analysis offers practical solutions for utilizing the potential of lawyers in institutionalizing restorative justice.
