The theory of modernization in the Islamic system is based on the principle that in each period, appropriate solutions should be provided for all individual and social religious issues. Considering the current challenges of the Islamic world, the necessity of modernization is clearly evident, because all aspects of individual and social life require revision, rethinking, and sometimes revival in relation to religion. This situation is the basis for the formation of the idea of modernization at a specific historical stage.
Most of the existing research on modernization in Islam has a historical approach and focuses on movements and currents known as "renovation". However, the rational and theoretical dimensions of modernization have received less attention. In this context, questions such as the necessity, legitimacy, possibility, scope, and types of modernization - including institutional or continuous modernization - can be raised.
Focusing on these issues, the present study takes an interdisciplinary approach within the framework of Islamic philosophy of religion and jurisprudence, and by utilizing conceptual analysis, historical review, and philosophical reasoning, seeks to provide a rational framework for establishing the idea of modernization in Islam, especially through the concept of "revival." Also, the idea of "collective revival" is proposed as a new approach for rebuilding Islamic civilization.
