“The emergence of novel communication tools and the expansion of the cyberspace domain have created an unprecedented environment for infringements upon individual dignity and moral integrity. Due to the concealed and transnational nature of this environment, efforts to counter such offenses encounter complex challenges. Utilizing field data from the Mashhad judicial district, this article re-evaluates the criminological dimensions of behaviors such as character assassination, dissemination of falsehoods, and online abuse. The findings demonstrate how the intersection of “new technologies” with the “socio-religious fabric of Mashhad,” alongside the existing gap in users’ legal literacy, has served as a catalyst for cyber-deviance. By synthesizing jurisprudential teachings and legal doctrine, the present study—while delineating the behavioral patterns of offenders within this specific context—elucidates the urgent necessity of revising existing protective and preventive strategies.”
